WHOIS

…how do spammers get your phone number and email address?

Do you wonder why you get so much spam email?

If you registered a web site, your personal information may be in plane view if you haven’t added “Id Protection” to your domain registration. Go to WHOIS DOT COM and look up your web site address. If your name and information is listed, go to your registrar, listed on that screen, and add ID Protection.

Is your email link on your web site or is there a contact form? Spammers have software that can “harvest” email addresses from web sites. Better to remove the email link and use a contact form. That contact form should also be protected by RECaptcha, which is a free spam blocking function provided by Google at no charge. Your web developer should know how to implement it.

Lot’s of tips like this can be found in my book “Guarding Against Online Identity Theft”, in print, ebook and audiobook formats, starting at less than $4. Go to GuardingIdentity.com.
